About Still Waters Counseling

At Still Waters Counseling we value every person that reaches out to us. We are very honored that people trust us to hear their stories and be part of their lives. We strive to make each person who comes to us feel safe and cared for. We do this by listening intently with our head and heart, and relying on God’s wisdom and discernment to help us help you in the best possible way.

At SWC, our therapists are a team of highly qualified professionals who are passionate about providing the very best therapy for our clients.  Each of our therapists strive to practice behavioral medicine to the highest standards and, for those clients who desire it, we will incorporate a Biblical approach.  All SWC therapists have advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) from the world-renowned Beck Institute in Pennsylvania.  Each SWC therapist also has completed formal seminary coursework or otherwise demonstrated significant biblical wisdom, skill and understanding.

Why do we practice CBT?  No other approach to psychotherapy has the demonstrated success that CBT has, it is regarded as the "Gold Standard" among psychotherapies.  The Beck Institute of Cognitive Behavior Therapy is the premier CBT training center in the world and we delight to offer this psychotherapy approach to our clients.  Why do we offer a Biblical approach?  David Powlison, former editor of the Journal of Biblical Counseling says it well, "nothing compares with scripture for making sense of the troubles and struggles of life...", and, "In the hands of a loving God, sorrow and suffering become the doorways into the greatest and most indestructible joys".

Mental health issues, are real, common and treatable.  Recovery is possible.  Things that happen in the world around us, and the problems we encounter can easily feel like too much. We may feel overwhelmed, worried, low on hope.  We may struggle to find purpose and meaning or to know how to take the next step when we can’t see the way forward.  Over time we can develop faulty thought patterns, unhealthy mental habits, and unsound beliefs.  Scripture and science agree that our minds can be a battlefield.  But take hope!  There is a way, and we want to help you navigate to a place of healing.

Life's hardships can feel like insurmountable roadblocks trying to trip us up and impede our progress.  We may sometimes need help to remain grounded in the Truth that, God has “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11), and that, "We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).

Still Waters uses the very best tools in behavioral science combined with God’s holy Word to help you win your battles and help restore you to the life you were meant to live. You are the only you. No one else can do what God made you specifically to do.  We want to help you rediscover your best you- the person you were made to be. Romans 8 verse 31 reminds us that “God is for us” and verse 37 tells us that we are more than conquerors! Battles in our mind, our body, our relationships, our circumstances will occur in this world.  With proven therapeutic strategies that work and with God on our team we can go forward in confidence and with overflowing hope.

In every aspect of its' operations, Still Waters Counseling is designed to be a soft place to land in a world that can be very hard.  Your phone call is answered by a member of our Care Team (Jan, Kaye, and Susan) who will listen, help, and, if you'd like, pray with you. Our practice manager, Chelsea, has a heart of gold and oversees the management side of your care personally.  The Still Waters team is honored and ready to comfort, encourage, and strengthen you!  Wade into Still Waters today!
